Elizabeth Street Signal Box

Part of a nationally coordinated drive to add interest to street corners, these boxes house the traffic light hardware on most intersections. The process included submitting an idea for each surface before setting up, mixing paints and creating the artwork on-site. Pedestrians are quite used to this process and some fabulous conversations were had over my dripping paintbrush.

The idea for this work celebrated Hobart’s bizarrely contrasting weather, found right outside the large tourist information centre, often the first port of call for car, bus and cruise ship tourists.

The mural was painted using industry-standard mural paints in the summer of 2018.
